Volunteers needed! Share your Toastmasters skills by helping to develop high school students from the Marshalltown and surrounding areas in a speech contest.
On March 15 at 7pm, a speech contest sponsored by the Lennox Leadership Development Organization (LLDO) in Marshalltown is tentatively scheduled. Volunteers are needed from approximately 6:15-9pm that evening.
Judges, timers, videographer, and chaperones are needed.
Each year, the National Management Association, of which which the LLDO is a branch, sponsors a speech contest for high school students. The students prepare and present a speech on a leadership topic of their choice. Speeches are 4-6 minutes in length and Toastmasters timing contest rules apply.
The first place speaker wins $300, second $150, and all contestants at this level receive $50 just for participating. They also win a trip to Charlotte, NC for themselves and one chaperone. Winners at that level win $1,500, and the first and second place winners get a trip to New Orleans in September for themselves and a chaperone. The grand prize is $3,000.
The contest is open to all students within a 30-mile radius of Marshalltown.
Check your calendars now, but realize the contest is tentative until Feb. 22. Contact Leah Cox no later than Feb. 29 if you are willing and able to assist. This will be a great opportunity hear some young folks give some great speeches, and time to connect with them to give hints and pointers after.
