He’s a former World Champion, and it showed. Ryan Avery, Toastmasters’ 2012 World Champion of Public Speaking, was in Cedar Rapids last night to present a workshop to nearly 200 people, half of them non-Toastmasters. It was a huge success, with everyone from guests to veteran Toastmasters excited by the insightful and valuable speaking tips Ryan provided.
It’s part of a 50-city tour Ryan is doing, and the District 19 appearance was coordinated by Area 32 Governor Jeanne Heil as a High Performance Leadership project. Jeanne’s team of dozens of people did a superb job of organizing and marketing the event.
Toastmaster Robby Marvin of the Aegon Articulators said after the event, “Last night was transformational and inspiring! That was one of the most impactful two hours of my life. I gained more last night that will help me in my professional and personal life than I could have asked.”
KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids ran this story on its 10 p.m. newscast:
If all goes well in production, we plan to make a video of Ryan’s presentation to all District 19 Toastmasters.
The photos below show Ryan speaking at the new Cedar Rapids Public Library, Ryan being interviewed with KCRG-TV, and Ryan posing with (left to right) Lt. Governor of Education & Training Mark Latta, District Governor Kelly Nielsen, Event Chair Jeanne Heil, and Lt. Governor of Marketing Paul Wood.
