Does your club elect its officers correctly? Toastmasters says elections are to be held at the first meeting in May, and that means your officer slate should be presented this month. Have you begun the process?
At this Friday’s meeting (April 11) of the Five Seasons Leadership Academy advanced club, the featured leadership presentation will be on how the club officer election process should work. Presenter Laura Meade is not only a Distinguished Toastmaster, but also a Professional Registered Parliamentarian with the National Association of Parliamentarians (one of just a handful in the state).
Laura says, “The presentation covers what a nominating committee does and what the assembly is supposed to do with the nominating committee’s report. It will also cover how to conduct the election of officers. I can cover Toastmasters and other organizations. It’s titled There is No Slate because the word ‘slate’ is not mentioned anywhere in the 700+ pages of Robert’s Rules of Order, and there’s a reason.”
This is a great time to visit the Academy! The meeting will be held at the home of Jamie Ward and Julia Venzke, 1001 Oakland Road NE in Cedar Rapids. Social time begins at about 6 p.m. Friday, with an optional potluck dinner at 6:30. The meeting starts at 7:30.
