Is Friday the 13th unlucky? Not when there’s a meeting of the Five Seasons Leadership Academy!
This Friday the club’s focal leadership presentation will be Division B Governor-elect Jeanne Heil presenting part of the Success/Leadership module, “Developing Your Leadership Skills.”
Also, this Friday is the club’s annual Movie Night! Shortly after the end of the regular meeting (about 9:30 p.m.), those who wish can stay and watch “Ender’s Game” starring Harrison Ford. If you haven’t seen the movie or read the classic sci-fi book, it’s set in the future as the Earth continues a long fight against giant intelligent bugs. The central point is how the society selects its military leaders at a very young age and trains them with controversial techniques in an effort to identify those with strong leadership abilities.
As always, the Academy meeting begins with social time at about 6, with an optional potluck dinner at 6:30 (guests don’t need to bring anything). The meeting itself will start at about 7:30. The location is the Jamie Ward/Julia Venzke home: 1001 Oakland Road NE in Cedar Rapids.
Although the Academy is an advanced club that focuses on leadership, all Toastmasters are invited. To join the Academy, you need to 1) belong to another “home club” and 2) have completes six CC or CL projects.
