Recently the CONscious Communicators club celebrated a hugely successful year with its annual awards meeting. The club is based at the Ft. Madison correctional facility and achieved Presidents Distinguished status in 2012-2013. The club named Jean Symington Craig with its Toastmaster of the Year Award. Jean is an “outside” member who plays a vital role with the club as connection to the world outside the facility’s walls. CONscious Communicators also honored Kristin Bruchmann for her contributions to the club, including serving as Keynote Speaker for the event. Longtime club member Dale Royer, a DTM, maintains beautiful gardens inside the prison. Kristin says, “I was so touched to walk in to that meeting room with Jean and the guard to find bouquets of those flowers in Styrofoam cups at my place, arranged as beautifully as the men knew how.”
