Distinguished by December: The Sequel!
by Mark Latta, Lieutenant Governor of Education & Training
You know how you watch a movie, and then you watch the sequel, and the sequel is never quite as good the original?
Well, here is one sequel that is at least as good as the original! We are releasing the sequel to the “Distinguished by December.” I was going to call it
Distinguished by December II: Catching Fire,” but since that name probably violates several copyright laws, Kelly made me change it to “Distinguished by Conference!”
The rules are primarily the same: have at least 5 goals achieved by the District 19 conference on May 16 and 17, and your club is automatically put into a drawing for a video camera or projector (with an estimated value of $300) regardless of the number of members your club has as long as your club is in good standing. All clubs are eligible to win this prize, even if you had previously achieved 5 distinguished club goals during the last incentive period. The only exception to this is the Town and College club, which won a brand new camera during the last Distinguished by December incentive.
Currently, we have several clubs already eligible and many more close to being eligible. Please look at the distinguished club program goals for your club on the TI website (www.toastmasters.org) and see how close you are to being in the running for this prize. Then, make a commitment to making sure your club’s members are getting value out of the program by achieving their educational goals or by helping others receive the benefit of Toastmasters by becoming members. It’s that easy!
Sure, “Distinguished by Conference” is a sequel. But, by focusing on helping members and potential members see the value of the Toastmasters program; we can help both our clubs and our members achieve more.
I would like to say Jennifer Lawrence will present the award, but unfortunately she will not be able to make it. She said it was something about “Jaybird” or “Mockingbird” something.
