This week, 15 speech students from Iowa Wesleyan College, accompanied by their professor, Emery Styron, drove from Mt. Pleasant to Iowa City to experience Toastmasters. The students joined Area 36 Governor, Sally Hartman, along with Mark Latta, Paul Wood, Jamie Ward, and Jeanne Heil for a pre-contest dinner,
where they learned about the judging process. During the contest, every student completed a sample ballot, as if they were a contest judge, and three students served as ballot counters for the contest.
In a Q & A session after the event, when asked how they felt about (unofficially) judging the contest, one student spoke up by saying “it was harder than I thought it would be.” Congratulations to Sally Hartman and Area 36 for inspiring these students, and teaching them the value of Toastmasters!
