The Ottumwa Toastmasters Club #663 will celebrate the 65th Anniversary of its founding with a special Open House on November 11. The club is the fourth oldest in the District, behind only Waterloo 101, Shibboleth, and Hawkeye Toastmasters (which is just five months older than Ottumwa).
Kevin A. Kelly, who has been a member of the Ottumwa club for an amazing 34 years, will be the featured speaker. Kevin told us, “The value of Toastmasters is the confidence one develops presenting in front of a friendly and supportive group! In a face to face communication, one can draw upon the confidence attained from listening, thinking and speaking at a Toastmaster meeting. One then carries that confidence with them to apply to any situation. Adjust and adapt, from there. Fun learning the techniques through Toastmasters-rewarding being an effective speaker, presenter, and conversationalist.”
The celebratory event will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 121 of the Advanced Technology Center at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.
Club Coach Ben Trachsel said, “We’ll have various modern and ancient Toastmasters, as well as some “Extreme Table Topics. We are growing this club and we would like you join in the fun.
